BIFF CALL2ACTION PROGRAM

Filmgoers worldwide are inspired by the energy and passion that cinema evokes. The Call2Action  Program provides a concrete, public platform for those who are moved by the power of film to get moving! The team at BIFF recognizes that film can educate us and raise our awareness around the most pressing local and global issues of our time. We have witnessed the ability of particularly evocative films to tug at the heartstrings. These films compel us to take immediate action and right the wrongs in our world.

The Call2Action Program creates deeper exchanges between the filmmaker, the audience, and an organization partnering with BIFF. These partners market and publicize the film to their networks and provide 5 action items that the community can take to make a difference.  After the screenings at Boulder Theater, audience members can convene in our large TalkBack tent at 14th St & Pearl St for extended post-film discussions. Here, the public is able to further engage with the visiting filmmakers and organizations to learn concrete ways to translate energy into action on important issues. For films at Boulder High and First Presbyterian Church, the TalkBacks are held within those venues.

To get involved in the Call2Action Program, please email staff@biff1.com.

ADL’S RECOMMENDED 5 CALLS TO ACTION:

  1. Be proud of who you are – Do not be defined by fear. Each of us has much to be proud of and to share.
  2. Be an ally – In this age, we all need support. If you want to have allies, be an ally to others.
  3. Advocate against hate – Do not let hate become the norm. Speak out when you see hate at every level. And raise your voice to your Congressperson, to urge their support of Acts like the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, the NO HATE Act, Do No Harm Act, Refugee Protection Act and Never Again Education Act.
  4. Educate – Urge schools to value anti-bias and bullying prevention programs that assist educators and students in understanding and challenging bias and building ally behaviors like ADL’s No Place for Hate® initiative and A World of Difference® Institute.
  5. Report hate crimes – The Colorado Coalition Against Hate, convened by the ADL Mountain States Regional Office, has prepared a Hate Crime Resource Guide for victims and potential victims of hate crimes, and provides information about organizations that support targets for such crimes. The information is intended to promote access to assistance from law enforcement and community resources and to provide support for those members of our community who have experienced frightening, emotional and violent crimes.

5 ACTIONS TO REDUCE PLASTICS

  1. Reduce. About 40% of plastic produced is packaging, used just once and then discarded. Avoid plastic packaging by shopping for products like produce in bulk and bring your own reusable bag. Learn more about plastic problems and solutions: https://www.ecocycle.org/take-action/reduce-plastic
  2. Refuse. Just say “no thanks” to unnecessary plastics like plastic bags, straws (unless you need them), bottled water, plastic beverage plugs and coffee stirrers, and toxic plastics that are much more challenging to recycle (i.e., plastic resins labeled with #3, #6 or #7).
  3. Create change locally. Become an Eco-Cycle Eco-Leader, and work with a community of volunteers on local sustainability campaigns:  https://ecocycle.org/network
  4. Support policy to ban styrofoam. Sign letter supporting legislation to ban polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) take-out food containers, which are made from fossil fuels and contain toxic materials: https://ecocycle.salsalabs.org/support-sb19-243-colorado-polystyrene-ban/index.html
  5. Help pass policy on single-use plastics. Help us pass CO legislation to reduce other single-use plastics (e.g., bags & coffee stirrers): https://ecocycle.salsalabs.org/stoptheproliferationofsingleuseplastics/index.html
