The Mali Assistance Project (MAP) was founded in 1999 to help the villagers of Foutaka Zambougou, Mali, West Africa and surrounding areas to survive immediate crises of famine, drought and disease, and to build a sustainable infrastructure for their future health and economic stability. Our goals have been to meet villagers’ immediate needs in the face of drought, crop failure and contaminated water supplies, and implementation of infrastructure projects, such as digging two 300-foot deep aquifer wells, build a rain-catching system and aid the village with a community garden, and to build a new school with concrete bricks.
