Boulder International Film Festival Announces Opening Night Program

Miss Sharon Jones! directed by Barbara Kopple featured

Boulder, CO – The 12th Annual Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF), which attracts more than 25,000 film enthusiasts, media and industry every year, has announced the film being featured for the Opening Night Red Carpet Gala: Miss Sharon Jones! The documentary film is an inspiring portrait of soul singer and Grammy-nominated R&B band Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings as Jones finishes her Grammy-award nominated album Give the People What They Want.

“This uplifting film is filled with great music and is a true depiction of the triumph of the human spirit,” said Robin Beeck, Festival Executive Director. “Jones is battling challenges in life that so many of us can relate to, and she does so with grace, courage and character. Miss Sharon Jones! is not-to-be-missed, and is the perfect way to kick-off BIFF 2016.”

The opening night celebration includes two simultaneous parties at two fabulous Boulder venues – the Hotel Boulderado Ballroom and the Rembrandt Yard Art Gallery & Event Center. There will be music, a red carpet where attendees can pose for photos, and costumed actors/revelers from films throughout movie history joining the party. Food will be provided by Big Red F Restaurants (West End Tavern, Centro Latin Kitchen & Refreshment Palace, Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, and Zolo Grill), and drinks provided by Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Boulder Beer, and Avery Brewing.

After enjoying food, beverage and music provided by The Bob Schlesinger Trio and the Sweet Spot Trio, there will be a New Orleans-style “second line” led by the Guerilla Fanfare that will parade directly to the Boulder Theater for the presentation of Miss Sharon Jones!
